Today is our anniversary. We didn't think we were going to make a big deal out of it given that we had some other big news and changes. But Bigbad is treating me to some sushi, and I did end up buying him a wood themed gift (some wood cufflinks like these*). Like I said, not such a big deal. We'll probably get back from sushi and finish watching Orange is the New Black. That's my favorite sort of evening.
And I made this cheesy video (I totally heard the song on one of the Traveling Triplets' personal blogs first). I promise you don't have to watch the whole thing. I don't blame you. It's a bunch of video and photos from these past 5 years. I cheated and mixed in just two pre-marriage photos.
So in five years time, we've moved 3 times. Bigbad has held 4 different jobs; I've had 3. Bigbad's had 4 different vehicles; I've had 1. We had another degree to frame (though we haven't actually hung any at this point. Maybe we should find those, Bigbad). The farthest we traveled was California. We added new friendships and celebrated new engagements and marriages just as we've mourned those who passed and relationships that ended. We gained and lost weight (which is kind of amusing to watch in the video). We got new roles as aunt and uncle.
We're hitting a groove that is pretty dang good. It's comfortable, but it isn't complacent. We're satisfied without being giddy all the time. We have enough changes and challenges to not be bored. We still feel youthful while also feeling like the old married couple of our friends. All I can say is, five years for us is a happy place.
And five years from now? Who knows. I'd like to say we'll both be making more money than we are currently. I'd like to think we'll be expanding and growing our family unit some more (Corduroy could use a sibling I'm sure). I'd like to say we'll keep this trajectory of weight loss. I'd like to say that this love we have is boundless and will surprise me as it grows. Who knows. The future's possibilities can't be quantified like the past.
But the right now? The right now is splendid, a nice groove indeed.
