DIY: Craft Organizer

This gift was inspired when I saw this piece of art.  I knew Punky Brewster would love it as she has an affinity for stars and pretty blue hues.  I wanted to give her more than just a framed print though.  On a trip to Michael's I spotted a large square frame and a small wooden gift box.  The wheels began turning to create a desk organizer of sorts with the gift box holding pens/pencils.

What resulted was a shophisticated shabby chic desk organizer that I'm anticipating Punky Brewster will use to stow her crochet hooks (hence all the crochet lace and such).

I have to say I'm pretty dang happy with how this turned out.  The frame, box, and vellum paper were around $2 each.  That might seem like a crazy price for paper, but the vellum actually has a sheen to it that gives the illusion of moonlight.  I'm telling you this paper is drool worthy.  The crochet notions such were the expensive part, but all told this gift came in under $15.  I had the paint on hand and borrowed the spray adhesive from Bigbad Mama.

Here's the sequence of everything I did:
  1. Paint the frame and wooden box.
  2. Attach vellum with spray adhesive.  Cut out rectangle where the art goes in the frame.
  3. Attach wooden box to frame using strong glue (E6000)
  4. Decorate the bajesus out of the thing.
